Every living
thing has a future. A caterpillar, for example, becomes
a mosaic butterfly. It embodies color and character. An
egg nested within the protective limbs of an aged tree
becomes a bird that flies with no boundaries. A seed nourished
with water, soil and sunlight has potential to bear abundant
fruit. |
| Likewise, today's
youth evolve into adults who have a lifetime of possibilities.

Through extensive research, the
Search
Institute has identified 40 developmental assets that
help our young people grow up to become healthy, caring, and
responsible adults. These assets serve as a reminder that
all of us play a role in the developmental process. Through
the Search Institute's framework of developmental assets,
Future Use Now is rooted in a mission congruent with an asset-building
approach to youth development that helps young people take
charge of their futures.

As reflected by its name, Future
Use Now challenges youth (ages 13-21) to prepare for their
future now. In June 2001, Future Use Now was founded and shortly
thereafter incorporated to empower the next generation of
our youth with the tools and opportunities to succeed.
